Nigel Sylvester has teamed up with Jordan Brand to create a new version of the classic Air Jordan 4. The duo has given a fresh twist to the beloved silhouette from 1989 with the Air Jordan 4 RM 'Grandma's Driveway.' The 'RM' stands for 'Remix,' or 'Restomod,' as many refer to the silhouette. Sylvester has indeed released an intriguing remix that showcases both his passion for BMX and his sense of style.

Nigel: "When Jordan Brand and I started discussing this shoe about a year and a half ago, all these things you see happening right now, are things that I wanted to execute at a very high level".

Nigel celebrated the inaugural “Grandma’s Driveway” launch with a GO RIDE event that saw him bike across New York City and London alongside hundreds of other riders in each city, all in less than 24 hours.

A look at the Air Jordan 4 RM reveals several striking changes compared to the OG silhouette. The upper has now become a low silhouette instead of a mid-top, featuring an updated TPU cage that wraps around the heel. The signature TPU wings and lace locks have been replaced by a streamlined, one-piece TPU construction, giving it a unique look.

The collaboration between Sylvester and Jordan Brand is further emphasized by special branding, including the eye-catching 'Bike Air' logo on the heel and tongue. These details showcase Sylvester's love for biking and his distinctive personality.

Nigel: “We can’t not do this,” and when Jordan Brand approved it, I was like, “It’s up. People are going to see this and instantly get it.” There’s not much explaining that needs to happen when you hear Bike Air and know it’s attached to Nigel Sylvester".

Grandma's Driveway
In a clip, Sylvester mentions that the colorway of the sneaker is inspired by the driveway of his grandmother's, Miss Jo Marie Payton, house. The place where the BMX rider found his love for the sport. The specially designed shoebox also includes details that reference his grandmother's home.

The fence is a core childhood memory for Nigel, because between the fence and the house was where all the action went on. "My earliest childhood memories occurred right here, on my bicycle, in this driveway, and the bicycle has taken me on such an incredible journey since then".

Nigel: "I feel like when you think about sneaker culture, us as fans fall in love with details, storytelling, materials, the thought process that goes into things. Of course, the colourway of the shoe references a story from my life, but taking it a step further and diving into the story through the packaging as well really got me excited. I’m the type of person who keeps my shoeboxes [laughs], so seeing the Bike Air box next to the classic Air Jordan boxes I have was a moment for me".

Nigel Sylvester: "Naturally, the green was an obvious choice. The fence holds a significant place in my childhood memories. A lot of those memorable moments took place right on the concrete. If this driveway could talk, it would have countless stories to tell, so it was crucial for me to represent that with the “Driveway Grey”." Together, both colourways tell the complete story.

The “Driveway Grey” colorway, the second “Grandma’s Driveway” style, draws from the pavement of the driveway itself. It will release in the US on the 9th of August.
